Tributes to the Late Very Rev. Dr. Polycarp Lubo

With a heart weighed down by grief yet filled with gratitude to God for a life well lived, I write this tribute to a spiritual giant, a voice of unity, and a father to the Christian community in Plateau State — Very Rev. Dr. Polycarp Lubo, the revered Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State.

His transition to glory on 15th June 2025, which coincided with Father’s Day, carries a profound and divine symbolism. Indeed, he departed this world on the very day we celebrate fathers — a fitting farewell for a man who stood as the spiritual father of Christians across the Plateau. His life and legacy have left an indelible mark on the Church, not only in Plateau State but far beyond.

Very Rev. Dr. Polycarp Lubo was a man who embodied Christlike humility, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the Body of Christ. Despite the high office he held and the many responsibilities on his shoulders, he remained a humble and accessible shepherd. He did not lead from above but walked among us — listening, supporting, and encouraging all who came his way.

During my tenure as CAN Chairman of Bokkos Local Government and the Plateau Central Zone, I had the distinct honour of working closely with him. He did not hesitate to honour invitations to our events in Bokkos, nor did he withhold his presence and support from our church, Rescue Force Ministry. On every occasion, he came not just as a dignitary, but as a father, a friend, and a fellow servant of Christ.

His presence at our events brought not only honour but also encouragement and unity. He had a unique way of bridging denominational divides, reminding us that our strength lies in our shared faith in Christ. His passion for unity and peace among Christians was evident in every speech he gave, every meeting he attended, and every heart he touched.

Dr. Lubo’s leadership in CAN was marked by integrity, courage, and spiritual insight. He stood firm in times of trial and always pointed us back to the cross, even amid the challenges the Church faces in our region. He was a man of prayer, a voice of reason, and a beacon of hope.

I shall personally miss him — not only for the powerful leadership he offered but for the personal relationship we shared. He was accessible in a way few leaders are. His humility made it easy to approach him; his wisdom made it worthwhile.

The Christian community in Plateau State has lost a pillar, a father, and a faithful soldier of Christ. But we rejoice in the assurance that he has entered into eternal rest, welcomed by the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

As we mourn his departure, let us also honour his legacy — by continuing to strive for unity, love, and unwavering devotion to Christ and His Church.

Rest well, Very Rev. Dr. Polycarp Lubo. Your life was a gift. Your memory is a treasure. You are deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
