Hope Amid Horror: Rev. Mark Mukan’s Message from Zike

Rev. Mark Mukan, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bassa Local Government Area, preaching at the mass grave of 51 individuals brutally killed by terrorist elements in Zike, Kwall District, Bassa LGA.

Standing at the site of such unimaginable tragedy is one of the most difficult things to do as a minister of the gospel. The weight of grief, the cries of the bereaved, and the silent pain in the hearts of survivors are almost too much to bear. Sadly, this is not the first time I have found myself in such a state—mourning with our people, praying over the graves of innocent lives lost to senseless violence.

In times like this, words are often not enough. Yet, as a servant of God, I must speak, I must pray, and I must call on both heaven and humanity to act. We cry out to the Lord for mercy—for healing, for justice, and for peace.

We must also look inward and take responsibility. This evil must not continue. It is time for us as a people, and as a government, to rise with one voice and say: enough is enough. We cannot allow the shedding of innocent blood to become a norm in our land.

May God grant us the wisdom, courage, and compassion to confront this darkness and bring lasting peace to our communities.
