When Holy Week Turned to Horror: Plateau Christians Mourn

The incident occurred in the early hours of April 14th, 2025, bringing devastation to the Christian community of Ziké in Kwall, Miango, located in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Countless lives were lost, and so far, the bodies of 51 individuals—men, women, and children—have been recovered and laid to rest in a mass grave. They were taken overnight by the hands of radical Fulani militias.

Words cannot fully capture the sorrow in the hearts of the Church on the Plateau. This is deeply heartbreaking and utterly unacceptable.

The Rev. Mark Wokgam Mukan, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bassa Local Government Area, conducted the mass burial with a heavy heart. He has been working tirelessly, day and night, to provide welfare, spiritual care, emotional support, and physical assistance to the displaced.

Let us keep them in our prayers and support them in every way possible—financially, materially, and emotionally. Even a phone call can bring comfort.

Jesus said in Matthew 10:42 (NIV):

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

This powerful verse reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness toward God’s people matters deeply to Him. When we support those who are suffering, when we give not only our money but also our time, our presence, and our prayers, we are ministering directly to Christ Himself.

As Jesus also said in Matthew 25:40 (NIV):

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Let us not grow weary in doing good. Let us rise in love and solidarity, extending both hands and hearts to our brothers and sisters in need. This is the time for the global Church to act, to give, to pray, and to speak.
