MASS BURIAL IS ENOUGH

A Terrible Life Story of Christians Killed by Fulani Herdsmen

Every single day, we hope that the killings of Christians in Nigeria, mainly by Fulani Herdsmen, will come to an end. Yet, it seems we must continue to endure these horrific experiences.

As a Christian leader, the daily news of Christians being killed is alarming. Many of these attacks result in mass burials. The sight of numerous corpses and the frequent need to conduct mass burials is something no minister wishes to experience, yet it has become our reality.

Daily kidnappings, molestation, and rape of Christians, particularly in rural villages across North Central Nigeria—especially in Plateau State—have become disturbingly common.

In a village called Pyakmalu in Bokkos, on the night of March 6, 2025, attackers stormed the home of the late Rev. Nuhu Lagan. They brutally murdered his wife, Mama Rifkatu Nuhu (84 years old), his son, Mr. Ayuba Nuhu Lagan (56), and his grandchildren, Melody (8 years old) and Justice (5 years old).

Before the land could recover from this horror, the village of Ruwi was attacked while residents were mourning their grandmother. The mourners were brutally shot, while others were hacked to death. Eleven people, mostly women and children, lost their lives in the massacre.

Just yesterday, on March 3, 2025, Fulani Herdsmen—mainly Fulani Muslim extremists—launched another rampage, indiscriminately shooting and setting villages on fire. The attacks in Hurti and other villages in the Manguna District, Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, left destruction in their wake.

We could not sleep through the night. As we wait for the morning news, we already know that at least five people have been killed, their bodies awaiting mass burial.

How many more shall we bury?

And how many widows and orphans shall come out of this terrible and evil work?

Bishop Dr. Ayuba Matawal: Chairman IDPs Welfare Committee Bokkos.
